Two people were arrested Wednesday on drug charges after a routine traffic stop, according to the Watauga County Sheriff’s Office.
On January 9, detectives from the Watauga County Sheriff’s Office Special Operations Division conducted a vehicle interdiction stop and seized approximately 3 grams of methamphetamine from Baxter Smith James, 69, of Boone, officials said.
James was charged with possession of methamphetamine and possession of an open container/malt beverage.
The driver of the vehicle, Robin Van Shook, 59, of Foscoe, was also charged with possession of methamphetamine, possession of an open container/malt beverage, and displaying a fictitious registration plate.
Both James and Shook were held under a $3,000 secured bond and are scheduled to appear in District Court on February 26, 2013.
James was already facing charges of PWIMSD methamphetamine, possession of a firearm by felon, maintaining a dwelling cf, and possession of drug paraphernalia from a search warrant which was executed on October 5, in which detectives seized 23 grams of methamphetamine.
